MELUSINE, TENNYSON
"now is the start"
- Name: Melusine Tennyson
- Nickname: Mel, Melly, Melon, Sina, Mel-seen-but-not-heard
- Sex: Female
- Birthdate: August 9
- Age:: 8
- Nationality: Western European mix, raised in Japan
- True Name: Doubt
- True Name Location: In a circle, around her chest cavity in cursive writing. It'll be between her breasts whenever they begin to grow.
- Type: Fighter
- Affiliaton: Septimal Moon
- Height: 4'2"
- Weight: 60 lbs 7 oz
- Hair:
Mel's hair is orangey-red and a little past shoulder length when worn down, with a particularly rebellious tuft that fans out masquerading as bangs. Nothing seems to be able to tame it. - Eyes:
Mel has the wide, innocent eyes of childhood, usually opened so much that one has to imagine it must be slightly a strain to keep them that way. They might be purple, or blue, or grey, maybe even green if the lighting's right, and nobody's bothered to ascertain what they actually are. - Outfit:
Melusine's mother has a thing for Regency-inspired garb, so her daughter's wardrobe consists entirely of long, empire-waisted dresses with puffed sleeves. There's a whole rainbow of them, and a few knee length dresses in the same style for if Mel is to be around mud - not that this has ever happened before (to her great disappointment). Her shoes are equally prim and proper, small flats and half-inch wedges in neutral colors. - Ears: Yes.
- Sexual Orientation: She doesn't even know the word romance yet, and has only met three other human beings at this point, so. Probably pansexual, though.
- Personality:
Mel is practically the definition of naive - she's heard of a lot of bad things in the world, but has absolutely no real conceptualization of them beyond a vague set of connections between a few words and the concept of 'bad'. She is very upbeat and optimistic, perhaps because she's used to things being nice and going well. She's also extremely trusting and easily swayed between points of view, though she is quite people-shy due to her lack of exposure to others, but she assumes that anyone not carrying a weapon is nice and good. She's insanely curious, and is very lacking in the concept of privacy. While she's never really needed to be, she's very kind, and cares easily about anything - honestly, she's very passionate, though she isn't quite passionate enough to find things like decisions particularly easy. Obviously, her personality will develop now that her life has shifted from comfortable isolation to a world filled with other humans. - History:
War is not glamour, and Melusine's mother would be the first to say so. While this mysterious woman, the daughter of a scholar of Latin, and a quietly revered assassin, has many children, her final was actually a child of love, the baby born from a naive and idealistic soldier in a war her mother was...interfering in. He happened to be on her side, and he caught her eye. Unfortunately, as naive young soldiers tend to do, he wound up dead before the war was over, despite her best efforts to make sure he wasn't assigned to dangerous things. Somehow, after years of this career, that was the end of her career. Whatever her name had been before, she retired to Japan, and became Quenta Tennyson. Perhaps the number she took for a first name was an honor to her father, perhaps to denote how many names she'd held, perhaps simply a note of how many siblings she'd had or perhaps it meant nothing at all.
While she initially had thought of abandoning the child she carried, after her birth, Quenta took Melusine home to be raised in what can only be termed 'isolation'. She was a stay-at-home mother, as the wealth she had illegally amassed over time allowed her to do nothing for as long as she felt like it, and powerful allies protected her. She allowed one other woman to the inside of her compound's house (servants maintained the outside, and there were guards on the outside), a woman who functioned as Mel's bodyguard (not that it was really needed), their maid, their nurse, and was the child's nanny in the very rare cases Quenta fell ill. Melusine's home life was peaceful, if lonely and unusual. Her mother never let slip her assassin past, instead passing herself as a diplomat (not that her isolated child understood the concept of multitudes of people, let alone anything outside the house and central courtyard and pool she was raised in). Their home was multilingual, and so she grew up hearing a mix of about seven different languages, though her mother chose Japanese and English as the primary tongues of the household.
Around the time Mel turned eight, one of her mother's old friends appeared on their doorstep and sweet-talked her way inside. Mel, for the first time in her life, wasn't allowed to sit in the same room as her mother and "okaa-san" (as she called her nanny-etc., to differentiate between them). So, unsupervised for the first time in her life, she went exploring parts of the house she wasn't normally allowed into, angry that she was being excluded. In her wanderings, she discovered quite a few things she was never meant to see - for a meticulous assassin, Quenta had severely underestimated the brute determination of bored children, and it wasn't long before Mel had found weapons - something her okaa had shown her pictures of to warn her that if anyone ever showed up with those, she needed to hide - she found old, blood-stained clothes, blood-coated bullets, all confusing and completely out of her range of comprehension of the world. Much to her surprise, as all the confusion swirled around in her mind, she felt a burning on her chest. Unused to pain, she barely managed to sneak back out of the forbidden areas of the home she had been in before her mother's friend appeared, surprised at the ringing she had just begun to hear. A few days later, she'd talked her friend into both resuming her career and sending her young, very educated but totally naive to the world, daughter to the same academy that had trained her.
And so, after some extra-intense schooling from her mother for a few more months, Melusine was sent off to Seven Voices Academy, completely clueless about why she was being sent (or what she was being sent to...or for...) After eight years where she thought of herself as one of three - then four - people in the world, it will certainly be quite an adjustment. The adjustment, really. - RP Sample: Hoshi got it goin' on
