LANZA, RIVA
" We're in the dark, it's getting late
I really should go, he's waiting for me
We both know it's not what it seems
We both know what's between the sheets "
- Name: Lanza Astra Riva
- Nickname: Lance, Lan
- Sex: Female, but dresses as a boy
- Birthdate: January 22nd
- Age:: 22
- Nationality: Italian
- True Name: Blank
- True Name Location: Nowhere. She doesn't have a name...yet.
- Type: Fighter
- Affiliaton: Septimal Moon
- Height: 5'5"
- Weight: 119 lbs
- Hair: She has long copper-red hair that reaches down to approximately mid-back, but she usually ties it up so that it barely hangs down to the base of the back of her neck.
- Eyes: She as large, round deep sapphire blue eyes.
- Outfit: She normally wears a binder on her chest, flattening her breasts so that she may appear to be male, and wears a formal suit, which occasionally includes a tailcoat. When required, she may dress down, or even wear a school uniform, but she has a tendency to dress like a boy regardless. Good luck getting her to dress like the girl she is.
- Ears: Of course she has her ears. Papà would have had the one responsible for her losing them killed, after all.
- Sexual Orientation: She is assumed to be heterosexual, but she really doesn't know where she stands, really.
- Personality: + Reliable - You can always count on her to have your back, or to be on time for class or other appointment.
+ Modest -She will never gloat about any accomplishment and will try to turn down praise in some way.
+ Honest - Sometimes, there's such a thing as too much of this. She will always tell things how they are, whether you like it or not.
+ Protective - No one messes with her family or Sacrifice and lives to tell the tale. No one.
+ Clever - She can figure out various ways to do what she has to and she's rather good with puzzles. Sometimes her methods are unorthodox, though.
+ Devoted - Her family, friends, and Sacrifice, are the most important to her. Nothing will ever change that.
- Has a short fuse - Exactly what it says on the tin. She can be easily angered, and when she is, you better hope it's purely a personal thing. If her family or Sacrifice is involved, you'd better run.
- Moody - Now, girls are known to have mood swings, but she takes it up a notch. One moment, she could be cranky and then her mood could shift. Makes her a little harder to predict.
- Hides her true self - You got it! This girl wears a mask. Now who has the guts to try and remove it?
- Self-conscious - She tends to wear long sleeved shirts to hide the fact that her right arm is a prosthetic. She doesn't like people asking questions or otherwise drawing attention to it.
- Impatient - This girl is not one you want to keep waiting for long. Not like any gents out there would, right? After all that's just rude!
- Stubborn - Once she makes up her mind, that's it. Game over. You will never change her mind, so you may as well give up now. - History: Lanza wasn't born with the name Riva. At birth, her name was Lanza Corvi, and she was the youngest granddaughter of a mafia boss. Her father was the youngest son of aforementioned boss, and this placed her somewhat near the bottom of the totem pole, when it came to the immediate relatives in this mafia family. Even though family was important, she still fell short of her other siblings and cousins, and had to "wait in line", as it were. As such she wound up having to entertain herself a lot, and often wound up playing alone. She never complained about this, though.
Now the Corvi family, being a mafia family, had a number of other rival mafias, with whom they struggled almost frequently. There wasn't a week where someone wasn't trying to take some power or land from someone else, and it was just how things went. But soon enough, her peaceful life, which was destined to see conflict eventually, ended rather abruptly. While her father, mother, and siblings were out for a while, another mafia family attacked, completely taking them by surprise. It boiled down into a defensive turf battle, and all the children (well, the ones too young to take up arms, at least) scattered to take shelter. It was complete and utter chaos.
Unfortunately, one small child didn't make it to cover in time. Lanza, who was about five years old at the time, fell victim to the event. As she ran for cover, she suddenly became aware of an intense sharp pain as a bullet struck her right arm. The pain was incredible, and she had never experienced anything like it in her short life before. She stumbled and fell, clutching at her arm as her family, which was being pushed back, turned and fled. Where were they going? Why didn't they hear her calling for them? Why didn't they come back for her? Wounded, heartbroken, and scared, the girl lay there, and cried until she passed out.
When she awoke next, she was in a strange bed, staring at a strange ceiling. There was something weird up her nose, something stuck in her left hand, and something on her finger, which connected to this weird machine that beeped off to the side. Where was she? It smelled funny and she hurt, and the memory of what happened came back to her. She was about to start crying, when the door opened and in walked a red-haired gentleman in a suit, who sat himself by her bed.
"Come ti senti, mia cara?" The man's words flowed smoothly off of his tongue, as if they were silk. Who was he? Why was he there? Where were her parents? She opened her mouth to ask him that much when he resumed and introduced himself as Alessandro Riva, the boss of a rival family of mafia. This frightened the girl. Was she captured? Were they going to demand ransom from her? However, he seemed to read her expressions, since he put a finger to her lips the moment she began to whimper and showed signs of tears welling up in her eyes and gently shushed the child, telling her he meant her no harm and that he had merely found her hurt. Relaxing a bit, she decided to listen to him and let him explain. He seemed nice, for the boss of a rival family.
She remained in the strange place she had learned to be a hospital for a few days to a week, when the doctors looked her arm over and frowned disapprovingly. Her arm simply wasn't healing properly, and it was worrisome. Considering her age, they couldn't afford to allow the wound to get infected. It could threaten the small girl's life if an infection developed. After consulting Alessandro, who came to visit her fairly regularly, it was decided that she was to go in for an operation, whatever that was. All she knew was they said they were going to take her arm away, but she was reassured when Alessandro said he would get her a new one.
Sure enough, after a few days of waiting, she was taken into the operating room and her right arm was amputated just above the elbow. It was strange, not having it there anymore, and she wasn't sure that she liked it. It wasn't just that, but as the stump healed, she had this weird pain, making it feel like the arm was still there when it wasn't. This frustrated her, and she was often in a bit of a sour mood until the day she was discharged from the hospital. Her original family seemed to refuse to talk to Alessandro, and seemed to think of her as dead, and so she came to stay in his care.
After some therapy, and further healing, she was fitted with her first prosthetic arm. It was a basic arm, and was mainly for the purpose of getting her used to prosthetics while she underwent physical therapy. Determined not to let her disability stop her, she attacked the therapy exercises with much enthusiasm and showed much progress over a short amount of time. This pleased Alessandro and he eventually sat her down for a bit of a serious talk.
She had been staying with him for some time, and her family obviously had no intention of taking her back yet, so he had thought that he might as well adopt her, and become her new father, instead of simply sheltering her as he had been. Of course, he had to ask her what she thought about it, first. She listened to his explanations of what he wanted to do and then stared him right in the eyes and said clearly that she would rather be a Riva than a Corvi, who obviously couldn't bother to reclaim one of their own. At least Riva was a family who she could trust. And so, it was finalized. Lanza Corvi had officially become Lanza Riva, and she never regretted that decision.
Eventually, Alessandro adopted another child, Sheeka Rithan, who had also been betrayed by his family. She felt empathy for the boy, and tried to help him out of his shell, in her own way. By then, her arm had been replaced with a state-of-the-art electronic prosthetic arm, which moved with her muscular movements and both looked and worked almost like a real arm. She was thankful for that. She just had to wear sleeves to hide where it was attached to her arm and no one was able to tell. It was beautiful. and she was able to keep up with her new brother when they did self-defence and firearm training together, which was fairly often.
Eventually, Sheeka left for Japan with a few small bodyguards, but then he was brought into a prestigious academy... which not anyone could enter. Only those who belonged to the world of the Fighters could enter the place, and frankly, the bodyguards were too mundane to be allowed inside. This bothered the father of two and he turned to the daughter who, despite not actually bearing a name, possessed the ability to be a Fighter like her brother. She was Alessandro's only hope to infiltrate the school and look after Sheeka.
And so, she was sent to Japan, where she enrolled herself at Septimal Moon Academy, as she was instructed. Her little brother was there, along with his Sacrifice, and they needed to be watched over. No one was going to bother them if she could help it. - RP Sample: Look at my other stuff.
