- Outfit: Being as androgynous as he is, he can get away with a lot of different styles of clothing. His usual outfits pretty well reflect his enjoyment of the visual-kei scene, though, and he has a thing for cross-dressing as well. - Reckless.
- Extremely stubborn.
- Can be quick to jump to conclusions without hearing the full story.
- Hates letting people know when he's feeling genuinely sad or hurt and will bottle his emotions up until he's ready to explode.
[li]History:
Mitarai Ren was born as the youngest of a pair of twins to a seemingly happy family. His mother, father, and his twin sister, Lena. Things weren't as well as they let on, though. The twins' mother, an American woman who'd move to Japan to be an English teacher before getting married to a Japanese man, was not exactly happy with home life in Japan. She missed her own country and more than that, the privacy of not having parents watching over you. Having never really gotten along with her in-laws made things tough in the Mitarai family home, and by the time the twins were two years old, the formerly happy couple were finalizing their divorce. Lena was taken with the twins' mother back to America, Ren stayed with their father in Japan.
As the boy grew, he became interested in music, learning to play guitar in the school band, as well as participating in any music related courses he could get into. At 14, against the advice of Ren's grandparents, the boy's father got him a vocal coach, and it was through that that Ren met two older boys and formed a band. From there, Ren's focus dramatically shifted, his grades slipping as he put more attention into the band. He died his ears and tail black, started cross dressing while on stage, followed by doing it in public. As Ren's band grew in local popularity, his personality also grew more wild and by the time he was 16 he was being expelled from school for not only his horrid behavior, but failing all his classes. At this point, his father was furious and basically put him under house arrest, forbidding him from even talking with his band mates, who he was convinced were to blame for Ren's actions. Deciding he was done with being suppressed by his father and grandparents, Ren ran away from home, moving in with the older of his two friends (who also happened to be his boyfriend, though that was kept /very/ quiet due to the elders age and the issue of it being a homosexual relationship), despite the 20-year-old's misgivings of the situation. Ren just wanted to persue his promising future as a musician, and nothing was going to get in his way.
When the police eventually came knocking on his friend's door the elder admitted that Ren had gone to him for a place to stay for a bit. The blond had heard him and, feeling like he'd been betrayed, the teen slipped out the back, disappearing again, not knowing that the other had not been planning on telling the police that he was still there. With enough money to survive on his own for a while, Ren decided to just wander for a while, camping out wherever he felt was safe enough, but otherwise just traveling around, playing guitar and singing on street corners for fun as he went. Two whole months pass by like this before things went down hill fast. The police found him, and, not wanting to be dragged back to a place where he'd be forced to give up what he wanted, he ran, dodging pedestrians and traffic alike. Of course, he was chased, and people reached out to stop him, though he was always just out of reach. When someone almost grabbed his arm, however, he thoughtlessly dodged to the side, into the street. He barely heard his name being yelled as a car slammed into him.
When he woke, it was to plain white walls, an irritating beep, and a lack of ability to breath, thanks to a tube down his throat that had, up until that point, been breathing for him. Naturally, he panicked, fighting the machine until a nurse rushed in, urging him to calm down and allow the machine to do its work until the tube could be removed. It wasn't so easy to relax and calm down though, and he didn't even really hear the nurse, blacking out from a combination of panic and lack of oxygen.
The second time he woke, the tube was gone and he was able to take stock of his situation. Broken arm, broken leg, bandages all over, IV, wires and various tubes all over... basically unsurprising. He remembered the car and the sudden pain of the impact, but nothing after, so he figured he must have hit his head and blacked out. When his band mates showed up later, at the start of visiting hours, he was surprised and a little suspicious. The following conversation wasn't pretty and lead to Ren and his boyfriend breaking up, along with the band splitting. They'd always be friends, but things were strained now between the youngest and eldest. When Ren's father showed up shortly after, he ordered the two older musicians to leave, reminding them that they weren't welcome there before he realized that his son was awake. Needless to say, things weren't good between father and son. His father blamed Ren for getting injured; the boy wouldn't have been hurt like that if he hadn't run away. Likewise, Ren blamed his father; if the man hadn't put him under house arrest and banned him from talking with his friends, then he wouldn't have ran in the first place. They yelled at each other for a while before a nurse finally came in and suggested that the elder Mitarai leave.
The day of his release was an interesting day, to say the least. As he was getting changed to leave he discovered an ood marking on his left him that hadn't been there before. At first, he figured that it was another barely healed section of road rash. He had plenty of that, after all. But then he realized that the dark marking actually formed letters. Puzzling it out through a mirror or upside down was a little difficult, especially given that he was working around a broken leg and arm, but he eventually figured out that it read 'Canorous'. What did that even mean? Resolving to look it up later, he finished dressing and left the bathroom, joining his grandparents, who'd arrived to pick him up.
Time passed, Ren healed, and while his relationship with his family didn't really improve much, he seemed to calm down a lot, though his style of dress never changed. He still cross-dressed and was incredibly outlandish with his appearance, even getting his ears, lip, and tongue pierced. The tattoo like marking on his hip never went away, though he liked it, the word's meaning fitting him to a t, though he did keep it a secret. His family blew up enough about the first piercing and every piercing after. If they found out about his mark, they'd blow up even worse. He'd never hear the end of it, and like hell they'd believe him that it was mysteriously there when he woke up after his accident.
The moment he turned 19, Ren got himself a job even taking out the piercings and managing to look respectable to pull it off. His fourth saved pay check saw him moving into a small, but cozy apartment away from the smothering of his father and grandparents, and he was soon taking up music again. After all, all he really wanted to do was sing. His former bandmates, whom his was still friends with, got him a new guitar as an apartment warming gift, and since then, he's been content working at his going-nowhere job and playing on street corners while having no idea how bad his life will be eventually turned upside-down. - RP Sample: See Lillian Arkany's application.
