Mendax – Mendax are genetically altered Unit halves. While they still maintain a true name based upon themselves, they are, by no means, chained to the one who shares that name with them. Because they are not bonded to another through a string of fate, they don’t suffer from the loss of power a Fighter of a mismatched unit or Blank usually exhibits. While they still are weaker without a Sacrifice, which is to be expected because the Sacrifice takes all the damage during a spell battle, they are not connected to another being by fate.
They’re the ultimate Unit halves. Being able to switch between Sacrifice and Fighter, not being limited to one half...
Mendax are what is to be believed as the next step in the human evolution chain, the first being the Units themselves. As Lament researched the Units and what created them in the first place and what gave them their position in the Unit, he discovered that there were two added proteins to the DNA sequence. Not the four main ones of Thymine, Guanine, Cytosine, and Adanine. He named them Samine and Zinine. It was this added pair of proteins that make a Unit – it was in his DNA but not in the DNA of a non-unit. Of course, this was tested multiple times. Scientific breakthroughs had to be tested more than once.
Samine was discovered to only pair with Guanine, and it only made an appearance in that of a Sacrifice. Zinine paired with Cytosine and was only evident in that of a Fighter. This was the breakthrough he’d been trying to find.
Since Guanine and Cytosine were DNA pairs in normal sequences, why couldn’t Samine and Zinine be paired together? He tested the protein several times and came up with the same conclusion; they could be paired together. What would happen if he paired them together in an actual DNA sequence? That’s what he did.
It was hard to do, but he managed to do it. He managed to slip the new protein pair into the DNA sequence of certain people. He didn’t know why it worked on some, but not on others, but he’d come up with a desired idea.
Now if only he could sever the connection between already paired units…
***Regarding the maximum age when creating a Mendax, do not exceed Arashi Arca's age/birthday. Please. It's to keep things realistic and in plot. Arashi is considered the eldest of the Mendax. It also makes things easier when creating Mendax so you know there is an age requirement - simply refer to this list to figure out how to age your Mendax.LIST OF MENDAX
