The three were pretty average siblings, fighting over toys and getting into arguments with each other, but they were fairly close and they liked to play in the small patch of forest behind their house. They even built a treehouse at some point. In the summer, they ran around and tried to catch cicadas, and in the winter, they held all-out snowball wars with each other. It was a lot of fun, and they all cherished those times together. Nothing ever bothered them. Well, not until Taiu was in second grade, that is.
One day, during a normal school day, the school Taiu and his sister attended caught fire. The teachers hurriedly evacuated the school, but accidently overlooked one small boy. Until they got outside, that is. Taiu had never been exceptionally lucky, and some bullies had tied the laces of his shoes to a table, not counting on the fact that the school would catch fire the way it had. He was stuck there, sitting on the floor as the room he was in, which was practically next to the supposed source of the blaze, got hotter and hotter, trying to untie his shoes. The ground in the area was always moise, and he didn't want to dirty his socks. It would be all unpleasant, and wet, and it had been a little cooler lately.
After waiting a short while for him to turn up, the teacher got worried was about to try and run in to see if they could find the boy when the fire department arrived and began setting up to fight the fire. They quickly hurried over to them, informed them of the fact that the boy was still stuck inside somewhere, and then were told that they'd find him somehow. By then, he had managed to get himself free from the table and could move around, but the fire had begun to spread into the room, and it scared him, and the only thing he could thing of was to run to a far corner and curl up into a ball, shaking from fright. Maybe this was a bad dream. Maybe he'd wake up and be able to run to his brother and sister and have them tickle it out of them, like they always did. Maybe...
A loud crack brought him out of his thoughts and he looked up to see that a shelf above him was catching fire, and weakening considerably. He began to scoot away, scared, but then it cracked again and something fell... and hit him right in the face, across where his eyes were. It burned and burned his face and all the boy could do was scream and clutch at his face, rolling in agony on the floor as a firefighter burst into the room, dousing some of the flames as they made their way to the boy and picked him up. He was still clutching at his face with his hands, and whimpering, but otherwise, he seemed to be alright. Once they got him outside, they managed to pry his hands from his face and saw, much to his family's horror, the damage that had been done to his face and eyes. He never saw anything again.
Once he was able to go to school again, he had people helping him to and from his seat, helping him to learn how to read braille, and helping him to find some of the things he needed, like his lunch. It was embarassing for the boy, and he really wished that he could just do things on his own again. However, it wasn't long before people started to take advantage of his lack of sight and began hiding things from him, moving his seat, poking him from random directions, and telling him false information. In other words, his bullying got worse. Eventually, it escalated to the point that they openly did it in front of him. It wasn't as though he could point out their faces, or anything. He was a scaredy cat anyway. All it took was to say that it'd get worse if he told the teacher, and it kept him quiet and he did whatever he was told. It was so much fun for them to see the look of desperation and anguish on his face whenever they picked on him. There was no way they'd stop.
Worried about Taiu, his brother and sister looked into many different things, hoping to remove their precious little brother from the situation. Eventually, they discovered a foreign transfer program in their area and immediately signed him up for this. Sure, it took him far away from them, but anything was better than what he was going through. Anything. After he arrived in Japan, he was met by his new foster mother and father and after a few awkward, yet polite greetings in English, they helped him to their car, and then helped him get situated in the house, teaching him a few words here and there in Japanese as they did. They were a really nice family, Taiu decided, and he warmed up to them rather quickly and learned all that he could from them, all too eager to please them. He went to a nearby middle school, and tried his hardest to get as good of a grade as he could even though he was a little behind when it came to reading and writing in Japanese, but he was supported and encouraged by them all the same.
Some time later, when he was sitting on a bench, hugging his things to his chest, he heard a bit of a ring in his ear, bringing him out of whatever daydream he was having. He turned his head in the direction of the sound, his ears sitting perked upright on his head, swiveling around attentively. It was then that he heard a soft chuckle from someone who seemed to notice his behaviour and he immediately wilted. They weren't mean, were they? He could only pray not. However, the person didn't immediately pick on him. Instead they greeted him and they exchanged brief introductions, starting up an otherwise normal conversation... until they asked him if he had heard something. Taiu hesitated, unsure of what to tell them. After all, what if they hadn't heard it? He didn't want to sound crazy or anything. However, after a moment or two, he nodded his head and then said that he thought that he heard a ringing sound, but then added on that he could've been hearing things. There was a brief moment of silence, and Taiu worried that he may have been thinking that he was crazy, or something, but then the person said softly, "Come to Septimal Moon Academy. We can teach you all about that ringing you just heard."
Confused, Taiu turned to "look" at the person, wondering what in the world he was talking about. It was just an auditory hallucination, right? But then he began to wonder... what if it wasn't? Well, he didn't have anything to lose. As he felt the person get up and heard him start walking away, he quickly opened his mouth and said, "O-Okay." - RP Sample: See Shiru~!
